Posh Østerbro: Frederiksberg’s posh “twin” district.
Østerbro is similar to Frederiksberg for its bourgeois buildings and inhabitants. It is an elegant residential area, surrounded by green areas, the so called “lakes” and many villas owned by foreign embassies.
Located in zone 1, it is worthy a visit even if you don’t live here. Among the best attractions Kastellet, the Little Marmaid statue, Trekroner fortress and the English Church of Saint Alban can’t be missed and are a must for tourists. Packed with small clothes and home décor stores, Østerbrogade is the place to go to spend a nice shopping afternoon. Contrary to what is always said, this wonderful neighbourhood has a lot to offer to its young public in terms of amusement and nightlife. Here you can find a lot of stylish cocktail bars, such as The Office Bar or Kitjn, and clubs. Café Bopa is maybe the less posh, always plenty of students during DJ nights. If you’re an R&B and house music lover, you should try Park Natkulb, which offer a free-bar every Friday night before 00:30. An interesting club recently opened is the Ocean Club, which is café, restaurant, cocktail bar and nightclub at the same time, opened in 2008. Great place to have dinner, great view on the lakes, which will make you forget you’re in Denmark for a while.
- Served both by the S-train and metro, Østerbro is very well located close to the city centre.
- Options for staying in this area (such as hotels), in case you planned to book one during flat hunting, are very limited.
