The municipality of Gentofte is a green area which faces the sea. The most famous parks in the area are Charlottenlund and Hellerup Beach Park. Many students choose to live here as rents are generally more affordable compared to central Copenhagen, while the neighbourhood is quite and safe.
Trains from Hellerup and Charlottenlund allow residents to reach Copenhagen Central Station within 15 minutes, faster than the bus, and can be found much frequently. A monthly ticket is strictly suggested, as it is by far more convenient that paying each single trip separately, whose price is around the Danish equivalent of 9 euros (two ways). Moreover, at night, buses pass every 60 minutes! The area around Hellerup is really nice, full of shops and supermarkets, which contribute to make it a very practical place to live. There is a shopping mall, and a vintage market is held here once a week. The closest attraction is represented by Charlottenlund palace, park and forest.
The beachpark is a seaside public park with a white sandy beach, equipped with a kiosk and a restaurant, worthy a visit during the hot season. However, we also definitely recommend the Ordrupgaard art museum, offering an interesting mix of temporary exhibitions, in addition to the permanent collection made up of Danish paintings form 1900, French impressionism art works, and some Gauguin pieces. For those of you who are not into art…well, the football stadium inside Gentofte Sport Park is just right behind the corner!
